Ordering an eSIM over Tor: what it protects and what it doesn't

The whole SilentLink store runs on a Tor onion address. Here is what browsing and paying there hides, and the steps that still leave Tor.

6 min read

SilentLink can be opened in Tor Browser at its own onion address, and every page of the store works there, from plans to checkout to your order. Tor changes what different parties can see, so it is worth knowing exactly which parts of an order it covers and which it cannot.

Quick takeaways

  • On the onion address, your network can't see which site you visit and we don't see your IP address.
  • Crypto checkout stays on the onion site; card payment opens the payment provider's page outside Tor.
  • With crypto, an email address is optional, so an order can be completed without one.

What the onion address changes

When you open the store's .onion address in Tor Browser, your connection is routed through the Tor network. Your internet provider or the Wi-Fi you are on can see that you use Tor, but not that you are visiting SilentLink, and our servers see a Tor connection rather than your IP address.

The store is the same on both addresses: the same plans, prices and checkout. Open the onion address from a bookmark, or from the address shown on our Tor page, rather than from a search result, so you know you are on the real one.

Which payment keeps the order on Tor

Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT payments happen on the onion site itself: you see the amount and the address there and send from your own wallet. The blockchain records the payment publicly, so how private the payment is also depends on how your wallet was funded.

Card payment works differently. It opens our payment provider's checkout page, which is on the regular web, and after paying you come back to the regular site. That is fine for convenience, but if you want every step on Tor, choose crypto.

Finding your order again without an inbox

With crypto checkout you can leave the email field empty. You get an order code instead, and the code opens your order and the eSIM on the order page. If you do give an email, the eSIM is sent there as well, and its links open the regular site because mail apps cannot open onion addresses.

Open your order from the onion site too, so following it never leaves Tor. The order code works on SilentLink only, on either of its addresses.

Tor hides from your network that you are shopping here and hides your IP address from us; crypto keeps the payment step on the onion site, and the order code replaces the inbox. Together they let an order go from browsing to an installed eSIM without leaving Tor.
